Xylitol & Pets

We could get into all the scientific data on why xylitol is not suited for dogs or cats but let’s keep it simple. Xylitol is a sweetener and all sweeteners are carbohydrates.

Dogs and cats were not designed to ingest any carbohydrates. They are meat-eaters. Xylitol can kill your dog or cat because the xylitol is processed in the liver and they die from liver toxicity. If you love your pet like we do, don’t feed them any carbohydrates or dairy, especially xylitol. Sugar specifically and dairy are terrible for pets as well as people. Feed them good quality dog/cat food and meat products, meat scraps and bones (for dogs) but no bones from fowl (chickens, turkeys). Any baked goods made with xylitol need to be kept far from any pet’s reach. To keep teeth clean buy rawhide bones for your pets to chew and have their teeth checked and possibly cleaned at the veterinarian's office.
